One of the toughest gigs as an umpire on the AFL list is to be on the rotation list as an interstate goal umpire.  WA based Brett Rogers notched up his 50th AFL game in the derby between WCE and Fremantle in his fifth year on the list.  Brett was recruited from Swan Districts Juniors into the WAFL and onto the AFL Panel in 2009.  Brett has had some very good success in the past 12 months having finished in the top 12 goal umpires and sitting as an emergency in last years finals and then umpired the 2013 NAB Cup Grand Final.

Boundary umpires Pat Tongue and Matthew McKenzie have both succumbed to season ending injuries.  Pat, who was diagnosed with a detached retina during routine eye checks with OPSM has had to endure a second bout of surgery to re attach the retina when the first surgery failed.  Matthew, will undergo an arthroscope in the next week or so on his troublesome knee which will sideline him until the end of the season.
