Congratulations to AFL Goal Umpire Sam Walsh on achieving his 50th AFL Game Milestone. Sam umpired his 50th Game at the Round 2 clash between Geelong vs Brisbane at GMHBA Stadium. 

Congratulations to AFL Goal Umpire Matthew Dervan on achieving his 100th AFL Game Milestone. Matthew umpired his 100th Game at the Round 2 Hawthorn vs Richmond Match at the MCG. 

The Association’s oldest life member Roly Caird turns 100 today!

Jesse Baird was introduced to the umpiring fraternity back in December when he was appointed to the AFL goal umpire list in Queensland.  All was going well until Covid-19 restrictions came into play robbing him of the normal pre-season approach for a first timer.

If one could get frustrated about the delay to the AFL season, it would be Simon.  Having had little movement in the AFL list for some years, Simon umpired four VFL grand finals before being promoted to the AFL in 2020. He then umpired one AFL game before the season was suspended.

AFL fans can expect a few head-scratchers and possibly even some downright howlers from the umpires when the premiership season resumes.

No-one could have anticipated umpiring your first AFL game in an empty stadium, but these are strange times indeed.
