A recent AFLUA survey completed by fifty-eight AFLW umpires has provided some key insights into how the AFLW umpiring cohort experienced season 9. The survey, conducted in November 2023 indicates that umpiring in the AFLW was largely a positive experience, but there were some cautionary findings.

AFLW Members See Success at SANFL Awards Night
The SANFL Golden Whistle Awards night last Friday saw three of the AFLUA’s AFLW members claim trophies.
AFLW’s Josh James recognised in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Awards
On the evening of Saturday November 11, many of Australia’s finest First Nations athletes, officials and administrators gathered for the reconvening of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Awards. AFLW Goal Umpire Josh James was among them, having been nominated for the Sports Official of the year.
AFLW Finals Panel Released
The AFLW has released the finals panel for the 2023 campaign. 42 umps will see the Adelaide Crows, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Geelong, Essendon and Sydney will battle for premiership glory across a four week finals series.
2024 Umpire List Released
After much deliberation, the AFL has released its Umpire List for the 2024 season.
Umpires ‘StepUp!’ for Down Syndrome Victoria
On Sunday 22nd AFLUA members volunteered at Down Syndrome Victoria’s annual StepUp! for Down Syndrome event, helping raise $45,574 to provide support for people with Down syndrome and their families.
Cameron Manthey Recognised as Queensland’s Best
The AFL Umpires Association would like to congratulate Cameron Manthey on being awarded the 2023 AFL Queensland Umpire of the Year last Sunday. He now joins four-time winner Andrew Stephens and two-time winner Andrew Adair as the only active umpires across the AFL and AFLW to have received the award.
