AFL player of the 20th century Leigh Matthews has described the AFL’s treatment of umpires as “astounding and embarrassing” on 3AW.
This comes after Caroline Wilson exposed the lack training facilities for AFL umpires on Footy Classified.
“How much does the AFL really care about it’s umpires?”
“How is it that the most professional and wealthy footy code in this country has a group of on-field officiators with no permanent ground to train on.”
Yesterday on 3AW’s Wide World of Sports, both Sam McClure and Leigh Matthews admitted that they were unaware that umpires weren’t provided permanent training facilities and expressed their disbelief.
“The look of it is just terrible… I find it hard to believe that this is the fact, that this is actually happening.”
