Field umpire, Jacob Mollison reached his 100 game milestone in Friday night’s blockbuster between Essendon and Hawthorn. Jacob, was promoted onto the AFL senior list in 2008 after a whirlwind career through the Albury umpires and the VFL. Jacob umpired the VFL senior grand finals in 2006 and 2007 and was only on the list for three years.
Jacob, who was given the shirt number of umpire legend Darren Goldspink (32), certainly had a big shirt to fill. In a quiet and determined manner Jacob has started to exert his influence on the group. Jacob’s training went to another level a couple of years ago when he was injured during pre-season and in particular his boxing and gym work makes him a tough adversary in the rehab group.
Jacob has umpired one final in his 100 games.
Boundary umpire, Justin Bennison also reached a milestone in the Essendon v. Hawthorn game on Friday night. Justin who has gone about his career in a very professional but unobtrusive manner officiated in his 200th game. (see the article on ‘The quiet man‘)
