Congratulations to AFLUA Life Members Steve McBurney and David Flegg AM who were inducted into the AFL Premiership Players Club at the RACV Club on Thursday 5 September 2024.
Each year the AFL Premiership Players Club inducts 20 premiership players, coaches and officials onto an Australian postage stamp. The organisation exists to recognise players, coaches and officials who have achieved the ultimate in VFL/AFL football, a premiership.
AFLUA Life Member Kevin Andrews presented the frames to both Steve and David.
Steve’s record speaks for itself – 19 years, 401 games, 29 finals, 4 grand finals (2002, 2003, 2007 and 2009), 3 international series and 1 State of Origin match in 1998. He was also All-Australian Field Umpire on three occasions in 2001, 2003 and 2007. In recognition of his on-field success and his significant involvement in Association affairs Steve was awarded the Bishop Shield in 2002, 2003 and 2007.
David Flegg AM was honoured in recognition of his 22 years, 337 games, 19 finals and 3 grand finals in 1991, 1993 and 2006. David was named All-Australian Goal Umpire in 2006. He was the recipient of the Leigh Keen Shield in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 in recognition of his on-field success and his contribution to the AFLUA in his role as Historian / Statistician, a role David has held since 1994.
