The AFLW competition commenced in 2017 incorporating eight teams. Further teams were added in 2019 (2 teams), 2020 (4) and 2022 season 7 (4).
Grand finals have been contested in all seasons except 2020 when no grand final was played as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic
