Bio

Boundary umpire Anthony Laughton joined the AFL list in 2025 with extensive experience across community, state league and representative football including time as a player in the Western Jets program. Anthony began his umpiring career in the Western Region Football League in 2012 before spending time at the EDFL, QAFL, NEAFL and VFL. While developing his umpiring career, Anthony working across Australia as a media professional across newsrooms before transitioning into media management and corporate affairs. Anthony has umpired at the highest levels of state football, including the 2023 and 2024 VFL Grand Finals, the 2024 SANFL v VFL State Game, and was named VFL Boundary Umpire of the Year in 2024. He was also recognised as the VFUA Most Improved Umpire in 2022. His finals experience includes the NEAFL Preliminary Final in 2019, QAFL Senior Grand Finals in 2015 and 2018, EDFL Premier Division Senior Grand Final in 2017, and multiple WRFL and VWFL Grand Finals earlier in his career. With more than a decade of experience across multiple competitions and pathways, Anthony continues to contribute to the growth, development and promotion of umpiring at all levels.
