Chris Appleton has been appointed as the AFL Goal Umpire Coach and will commence in the role on 1 December 2019.

Chris umpired 286 AFL matches including 3 AFL Grand Finals in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He was emergency for the 2013 AFL Grand Final.  He was an All-Australian Umpire in 2104 and the recipient of the Leigh Keen Shield in 2014 and 2015.  He commenced his umpiring career with the Eastern Football League in 1995.

By accepting the role, Chris will forgo his current position on the AFL Goal Umpiring List. The AFL will formally announce an addition to the list as soon as possible.
