Tradition is an important part of football. There’s perhaps no better example than the annual angst over the possibility of shifting the AFL grand final from its customary 2.30pm start to a twilight or night timeslot.

For many of us footy romantics, that’s a biggie indeed, the issue how can an occasion already the biggest on the football calendar really be improved further just with the addition of a few light shows and fireworks.
