The final pieces of the list management process have been completed and our umpires are in full pre-season training. Our field umpires have been involved in club visits across Australia since early January. All umpires have been completing their fitness benchmarks. The field umpires held their annual camp last weekend in Portsea and all goal and boundary umpires will be in Melbourne this coming weekend for their annual camp.

Teaching the ABC in Cambodia – young umps volunteer overseas!
When one thinks of a couple of umpiring mates heading overseas during off-season, images of beaches, bars and a few bevvies spring to mind. Not for AFL umpire Nick Brown and AFL Rookie Daniel Butcher who spent a week teaching English, as part of Helping Hands Cambodia, a grass-roots Globalteer organisation that runs a complementary school for over 300 children in a rural village Prasat Char.

Fleer returns to the AFL in 2016
There have been some recent cases of umpires returning to the AFL after redeeming themselves with outstanding officiating back in state league football.
