Its not often that a sibling is the most influential person on an umpire’s career to date but it is Patrick Burn’s brother Matthew who got him to take up umpiring. From there Patrick gave up his playing career and stuck at umpiring for the fitness, pocket money and opportunities it offered.

John Howorth joins the AFL Rookie list

John Howorth joins the AFL Rookie Squad in Victoria after commencing his umpiring career back in 2005, as a boundary umpire looking to pick up some extra pocket money.  John moved into field umpiring at the start of the 2012 season to be more apart of senior footy whilst also wanting to challenge his knowledge of the rules.

“Never say never” is the new catch phrase going around in Leigh Haussen’s world! Having been delisted as a Rookie Umpire at the end of season 2016, Leigh now finds himself, following Jordan Bannister’s retirement, promoted to the AFL Field Umpires’ list for season 2017.

Welcome Michael to the NSW Boundary Squad

Michael Baker started boundary umpiring in Canberra in 2004 where he umpired his first final in 2005 and his first grand final in 2006. He then umpired the AFL Canberra Premier Division Grand Final and the Under 16 National Championships in 2007.  Michael’s 2008/09 seasons were cut short due to illness / injury.
