“Do we have a whistle lying around?”

Round 9 – shorts
The long weekend of football started in great fashion in Adelaide, with the largest crowd for a home and away game in Adelaide making so much noise that the umpires still haven’t heard the three quarter time siren. What a way for Heath Ryan to bring up his 100th AFL match.

Memorable milestone for Heath Ryan
I would like to think that all milestone matches will be as memorable as that one was on Thursday night. “Adelaide v Collingwood in front of 50,000 screaming fans. The noise was loud, it was an amazing atmosphere, I couldn’t want for anything more,” said an elated Heath today as he walked with his wife Danielle and son Harrison into the Adelaide zoo. He had brought his family, including his mother and father across to Adelaide to help celebrate his milestone.

Round 8 – Shorts
History was made on Saturday night at the “G” when our two female goal umpires were appointed to the “field of women” match in recognition of the women’s round and the breast cancer network. Rose and Chelsea had been involved in extensive media in the lead-up to the game and represented umpiring and women in an extremely positive light. They are both true professionals.
Tickled pink to fly the flag
For the first time ever, two female goal umpires will umpire together on this weekend.
Round 7 – shorts
Nothing could detract from Rob O’Gorman’s first official game (he umpired a quarter when he came on in the GWS v Melbourne game in Round 3) Hawthorn v. St Kilda at the MCG on a Saturday afternoon. Not even the score line! “It made no difference to me I still had to judge each contest on its merits. Dean Margetts and Jacob Mollison looked after me and we had a great day,” reflected Rob when we caught up with him early in the week.
Carlton v. Collingwood legends game ……..with a few umpiring legends thrown in!
It may have been a cold wintry Sunday afternoon at Princes Park, the traditional home of the “old dark navy blues”, but it came alive when traditional rivals, Collingwood stepped onto the park at 2pm. That didn’t stop about 2,000 die hard footy nuts from turning out for the game.
