Where are they now? – Graham Brewer
It must be hard following your parent into the same sporting field, burdened with the expectation to equal, if not better, your parent’s achievements. My next ‘Where are they Now’, Graham Eric Brewer, is just that case. His father Eric OAM succeeded in all aspects of Umpiring, as well as his working life. Eric Umpired 65 VFA games field, 12 VFL games, 50 Reserve grade games, before moving over to the Goals where he umpired 63 VFL games before his compulsory retirement at the age of 50 years.

AFLUA Umpiring Hall of Fame – Thirteenth Ballot
On Monday night the AFLUA hosted the Hall of Fame induction dinner for the thirteenth ballot. The induction of thirteen new members to the Hall of Fame was celebrated, as well as the elevation of David Flegg AM to Legend Status.

Changes to the AFLUA Hall of Fame’s criteria for induction has enabled some of umpiring’s greatest to be inducted as part of the prestigious evening’s 13th ballot.
Stephen McBurney Appointed to Head of Umpiring
The AFLUA has welcomed the appointment of Stephen McBurney to the role of Head of Umpiring. McBurney brings with him a wealth of umpiring experience having umpired 401 games from 1995 to 2013. More recently he was Australian Building and Construction Commissioner from 2018-2023.
Peter Howe Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Former AFLUA CEO Peter Howe will be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his exemplary services to umpiring and the association spanning 45 years.
