AFLUA Life Memebers and Alumni attend AFL training night

May 24, 2025

The AFLUA in partnership with the AFL hosted a visit to training night for life members and alumni at Marvel Stadium on Thursday 13 May.

Following a Welcome to Country ceremony, guests were invited to watch training and to visit the ARC if they haven’t done so in recent years.

Steve McBurney welcomed everyone and undertook a Q and A session with some of the guests to gain insights in how umpiring was during their era.

Brett Rosebury then presented Matt Stevic with a book the AFLUA had published to celebrate his 500-match achievement. Cam Jones then presented Matt with his Bishop Shield award in recognition of Matt’s on-field success and the role he provides in mentoring and supporting younger umpires.

The evening concluded with umpires catching up or reconnecting with their former colleagues, coaches or mentors whilst enjoying pizzas and cold drinks.

Special thanks to Aaron Nunn, Steve McBurney, Phil Watson and Ben Carbonara for their assistance in the planning and running of the night.
