Umpire appointments for the EJ Whitten Legends Game

Aug 22, 2017

Following the announcement of the two teams contesting this year’s EJ Whitten legends game we thought it appropriate to announce the umpires who have been selected to officiate in this great game.

This year our goal umpires see the return of the dynamic duo of Peter Gonis and Peter Nastasi.  The Peter’s said farewell to the AFL at the end of 2012.  They appeared in the 2015 EJ Whitten game when there was a four-goal umpire system but are back this year to strut their stuff.  Peter Nastasi has requested a small shirt.

Our boundary umpires are all set for their first run in an EJ Whitten game.  Headed by Randall Gibson who umpired his last AFL game in 1999, he is joined by three recent retirees, John Morris, Chris Morrison and Gerard Large.  Randall is the current AFL boundary umpire’s coach in Queensland.  There will be many critical eyes passing judgement on his performance.

Turning to our field umpires, evergreen Stephen McBurney will be partnered by Gavin Dore who have both previously officiated in EJ Whitten games.  They are joined by Stuart Wenn and Jason Armstrong who will be working in their first game.  Eyes of every up and coming field umpire around the country from around the country will be on Stuart given his role of heading their development towards an AFL contract.

Back for his 22nd year straight, the team will be coached by former VFL field umpire Peter Cameron.
