It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Walter (Wal) Andrew.
Wal, who was battling kidney disease, passed away peacefully at Caritas Christi on October 15. He was 85 years old.
Wal commenced umpiring on the VFL reserve grade in 1948. He came onto the VFL list in 1955. He was awarded heritage number 232, umpiring 35 VFL games between 1960 and 1964 when he retired.
In that time he also umpired 43 VFL reserves matches, 130 VCFL games including 5 grand finals and 5 Tasmanian matches. Wal went on to the VFL appointment board as an observer.
