Passing of two AFLUA Life Members

It is with great sadness that we advise you of the passing of two life members.
 
Ken Quinn 
 
Ken passed away last Friday. He was 71.
Ken was a VFLUA member between 1969-81, he was on the Social Committee in 1974 and was elected onto the  Executive Committee in 1975, where he was Assistant secretary in 1976, becoming secretary for two years in 1977-78.  Ken became a Life member in 1979.

Ken umpired 83 VFL matches between 1974-81 (Heritage No. 269). He also umpired 85 VFL Reserve Grade matches, 125 VCFL matches (15 grand finals) and 1 Tasmanian match (1 grand final).  He continued his work with umpires after his retirement and became the Assistant umpires advisor in the VFA 1983-86.  Ken attended his first Past President and Secretary’s function in many years in May where we all thoroughly enjoyed his company.

Ken Quinn’s funeral will be held at the Lilydale Memorial Cemetery – 126-128 Victoria Rd Lilydale. on Friday July 15 commencing at 11.15am. 

Jim Brewer

Jim passed away last Thursday after a long battle with illness.  

Jim’s career was a long and distinguished one.  He was appointed to the VFL Reserve Grade in 1955-57.  He was then promoted to the VFL senior panel and was a VFLUA member between 1958-68.  Jim became a life member in 1968.

Jim umpired 27 VFL matches between 1962-66 (Heritage No. 237).  He also umpired 54 VFL Reserve Grade matches, 160 VCFL matches (16 grand finals) and 11 Tasmanian matches (1 grand final)
 
Jim then went to the Essendon District Football League in 1970 and became Assistant Advisor there in 1971.  Jim was the training supervisor of the VFL Umpires at Royal Park in the 1970s.  He became a VFL Reserve Grade Umpires Appointment Board member from 1972-until the reserve grade was disbanded.
 
Jim’s funeral will be held at Allison’s Funeral Home, Mt Alexander Rd Essendon at 2.30pm this Wednesday 13 July, 2016.
