Associate Membership

Are you eligible to become an Associate Member?

Prior to 2001, the only way an umpire could be a member of the AFLUA was to be a running umpire on an AFL List, or a Life Member.  A new category of Associate Membership was created to enable former VFL / AFL umpires who are not Life Members to take up membership of the Association.

The AFLUA recognises the important contributions that all umpires have made to the heritage and traditions of VFL / AFL umpiring and to the AFLUA.  Associate Membership provides the means by which we can demonstrate that recognition to all those who are not current Full Members or Life Members of the Association.

Pursuant to Rules 4(a)(ii) and 4(b) of the AFLUA Inc. Rules as governed by the Associations Incorporation Act, 1981 (Vic)

4(a) (ii) Any person:(aa) who has previously been employed or engaged as an umpire by the AFL in or in connection with the AFL Competition;(bb) whose usual occupation no longer includes that of being employed or engaged as an umpire by the AFL in or in connection with the AFL Competition; and

(cc) who is not a Life Member is eligible to become an Associate Member of the AFLUA.

4(b) Any Associate Member of the AFLUA will have the same rights, privileges, benefits and obligations of membership of the AFLUA as a Full Member of the AFLUA provided that an Associate Member will not be entitled to receive notice of, attend or vote at the General Meeting and provided further that the AFLUA may in its absolute discretion procure any right, privilege or benefit for Full Members only.

Associate Membership is $150.00 per year including GST and will entitle the Member to many of the benefits available to members such as discounts to events, a complimentary copy of the AFLUA Annual Report and Year Book, access to Preferred Service Providers, access to the AFLUA Website and in addition, a year as an Associate Member will count as a year toward fulfilling the 10 year requirement for Life Membership. The main aim however of this initiative is to provide a way by which we can stay in touch with all former umpires so that they can be kept informed of what is going on in the world of AFL umpiring and in the AFLUA.We invite you to seriously consider joining as an Associate Member – contact Hayley 9348 1611
