One of the stalwarts of our association Peter “Pedro” Taylor passed away peacefully over the weekend.  Pedro was still an active participant in our X umpire luncheons at Mornington and always had a good story or two to tell.

Pedro grew up in Mordialloc and Parkdale.  He played football for Mordialloc YCW in the YCW Football League.  He also played cricket for St.Bridgets-St.Louis Cricket Club where he was also a life member.

He began umpiring in 1965 in the VFL Reserve Grade as a field umpire and then between 1970-1976 as a goal umpire.  Pedro was an Executive Committee Member of the VFL Reserve Grade Umpires Association.

Pedro was promoted to the VFL Senior Panel as a goal umpire in 1977 until his retirement in 1985.  He was awarded Heritage Number 171 and umpired 144 VFL matches including 3 finals.  Pedro served on the VFLUA Executive Committee in 1982.  Pedro was an active member of the VFLUA Cricket Club and was the treasurer for many years.  He was made an honorary life member of the association in 1987

Pedro’s funeral will be held this Friday, March 1st 2019 at the Le Pine Chapel, 21 McDonald St Mordialloc commencing at 2.30pm.

Vale Peter “Pedro” Taylor.
