AFLUA Life Member and Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Sleeth passed away peacefully last Monday, July 29, 2013 following a short illness.

Ray umpired 119 VFL senior games and 4 finals in a career spanning the years 1962 to 1972. Add to that total, 98 VCFL games and 12 country grand finals, along with 34 VFL reserve grade matches, all in a one umpire system and you know why he was considered by many of his colleagues as being “larger than life”. Ray was an executive member in 1967 and 1968.

There will be many stories told about his umpiring and no doubt his exploits, however, one thing remains true, he was a great bloke!

All AFL umpires will wear black arm bands in memory of Ray in this weekends round of AFL matches.
