You could not umpire in the Sunraysia Football League during the 1970’s or 80’s without knowing long time goal umpire Charlie Cook.  We all know his son, Allan, who recently won two gold medals at the world masters games and is a life member and strong supporter of the AFLUA.

Charlie was renowned in Mildura for his cricket and football umpiring.  “He was the reason my brother and I took up umpiring,” reflected Allan when we spoke about Charlie last week.

The VFL sent umpires to officiate in the Sunraysia league for many years and Charlie got to know many VFL guys including Graeme Patterson and Rob Dunball.

Charlie passed away peacefully just after Christmas.
