Charles “Alan” Cole passed away last Wednesday. Alan was one of the members of our Yarrawonga chapter. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday with Bill Sutton, Peter Saultry and Ted Johnson traveling to Melbourne to be part of those celebrations.
Alan’s career as a VFL field umpire commenced in 1956 where he umpired 76 VCFL matches until his retirement from the list in 1960. Alan returned to the list in 1967 as a goal umpire. He was awarded heritage number 149. He umpired 171 VFL senior matches which included 5 finals and the 1969 VFL grand final. Alan retired from the list in 1976.
Alan was made a life member of the association in 1971.
Alan will be farewelled in a funeral at St.Andrews Uniting Church Yarrawonga on Tuesday November 29, commencing at 11am. A private cremation will follow.
